What is concentration?

Concentration means fixing the consciousness in one place or on one object and in a single condition. [1]


In concentration proper there is not a series of thoughts, but the mind is silently fixed on one object, name, idea, place etc. [2]


Not thinking at all is not easy; but if one wants a perfect concentration it is essential that there are no thoughts any more. [3]


It is to bring back all the scattered threads of consciousness to a single point, a single idea. [4]
